Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting: E-health
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
Date: 18 May 2008
This meeting will explore the challenges and opportunities of e-health technology in the Commonwealth. It will focus on a range of e-health applications, the ethical, legal and infrastructural challenges faced when introducing e-health, and the financial and intellectual property issues that must be considered prior to the introduction of new information technologies. This meeting will be attended by the Commonwealth’s 53 Ministers of Health, senior health officials, and global and regional health partners. Archbishop Desmond Tutu will be delivering the keynote address at this meeting.

Commonwealth Southern and East Africa Colloquium on Gender, Culture and the Law
Location: Windhoek, Namibia
Date: 21-23 May 2008
The colloquium is expected to provide insights on women’s claims to rights and resources under laws and customs that are often mediated by social and cultural norms. Based on specific recommendations from the colloquium, the Commonwealth Secretariat will take forward its work on gender, culture and the law. It is therefore seen as a starting point to develop policy and other project-related work on women’s rights, culture and the law in Southern and East Africa. The meeting will have representatives from ministries of gender, law and justice, judiciary, women’s rights organisations, and traditional and religious bodies.
